Thoughts about Tourists
A visual exploration of the contemporary tourist who seem to possess a compulsion to collect experiences. Looking at how the term ‘Tourist’ came only to be 200 years ago; it is a relatively new phenomenon. This project is a compilation of new observations and past experiences, documented in the form of film, photographs, and writings by myself.
This project explores the relationship between tourists and their environment. How their actions and movements, and even their attire seem to categorise them as a ‘species’ of their own. My body of work is for you, me and everyone that travels and has contributed to the tourism phenomenon.
The brand identity is centred around memorabilia such as postcards, letters, tickets, photographs, collected when one goes on a holiday. The publication mimics the scrapbook - with its clothbound and ring fasteners, to present relatable experiences and thoughts to the viewer.
